Visiting Professor
A Visiting Professor is a faculty member affiliated with a foreign higher education institution (HEI). Please note that they do not necessarily need to be of foreign nationality. Generally, Visiting Professors are invited directly by the Departments within the University’s Teaching Units.
Scope of Activities
The activities of a Visiting Professor may include, but are not limited to:
Academic Events: Congresses, seminars, symposia, meetings, and workshops.
Examination Boards: Participating in thesis defense committees or judging panels.
Teaching: Lecturing in Undergraduate, Graduate, or Culture and Extension courses.
Research & Training: Conducting research, technical visits, or laboratory work.
Academic Degrees: Pursuing Doctoral or Post-Doctoral titles.
Other: Visiting lectureships (Professor Leitor), award ceremonies, and community service.
ID Card and Access (USP Card)
To be eligible for a USP Card (official identification for campus access), the professor must remain at the Institute for a minimum of 30 days.
The CCNInt application form must be submitted at least 20 days in advance to ensure sufficient time for the card to be issued.
All foreign Visiting Professors conducting research or teaching activities at USP must obtain a VITEM I visa. Important: For detailed information on the application process and requirements, please refer to the Visa Section on this page.
Required Documents for Registration
All visiting professors and researchers must submit the following documents through the Registration Form:
Passport Copy: A scan of the biographic data page (the page containing your photo, issuance date, and expiration date).
Visa Copy: A scan of the valid visa (usually VITEM I for researchers/professors).
ID Photo: A digital photo for the issuance of your USP Card (official university identification).
Funding Documentation: An official document from your funding agency or sponsoring organization (if applicable/if you have a grant).
Proof of Affiliation: An official document confirming your current relationship or employment with your Home Institution.

Visiting Professor Fellowship Program
The University of São Paulo establishes the regulations for its Visiting Professor Fellowship Program through Resolution No. 7192 (April 19, 2016). This program aims to promote academic, scientific, and cultural exchange to strengthen both teaching and research excellence.
Standard Duration: Minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 12 months (continuous or in intervals).
Extensions: In exceptional and well-justified cases, the fellowship may be extended to a maximum of 24 months.
Visiting Professors from abroad are entitled to use USP's faculty infrastructure and may receive:
Airfare: Round-trip economy class tickets.
Health Insurance Allowance: Financial support to cover health insurance costs.
Mobility Allowance: Financial aid for travel required by program activities.
All expenses are covered by the budget of the USP Agency for National and International Academic Cooperation (Aucani).
A USP estabelece as normas para o Programa de Bolsas para Professores Visitantes na Universidade, por meio da Resolução nº 7192, de 19 de abril de 2016, que visa promover o desenvolvimento do intercâmbio no âmbito acadêmico, científico e cultural, com o objetivo de fortalecer o ensino e a pesquisa.
A bolsa de professor visitante terá a duração mínima de um mês e máxima de 12 meses, contínuos ou intercalados. Em casos excepcionais e devidamente justificados, a bolsa poderá ser prorrogada para um máximo de 24 meses.
Os professores visitantes poderão se beneficiar da infraestrutura oferecida pela USP a seus docentes e receberão, se forem oriundos do exterior: bilhete aéreo em classe econômica e terão direito a um auxílio para seguro-saúde, auxílio para os deslocamentos necessários ao desempenho de suas atividades no programa. As despesas correrão por conta das dotações orçamentárias da Agência USP de Cooperação Acadêmica Nacional e Internacional (Aucani).
