Incoming - Research Exchange
Students enrolled at foreign institutions may engage in research activities valid for their home university. The Institute of Biosciences of the University of São Paulo is dedicated to advancing scientific research and standardizing innovative techniques.
It comprises 5 departments, each playing a vital role in the institution's mission to excel in the biosciences education and research. These departments compass a wide array of laboratories, specialties and disciplines, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Below, you will find further details regarding the primary research domains of some of the departments within IB-USP. If you want to conduct a research project, you can look for more infortmation at the labs website.

Choose subjects and set up the Study Plan/Learning Agreement: In the application phase, students are not yet enrolled in the disciplines, so it is not guaranteed that they will take the selected disciplines. The offer of the "Optional" disciplines is defined between 1 and 2 months before the beginning of the semester (after the application period).
A student who does not complete the application will be considered withdrawn from the exchange at USP and we will not be able to process their application.
Required Documents
Learning Agreement (USP Draft) signed and stamped by who has the authority to approve the mobility programme of exchange students. To select courses, click here (available only in Portuguese);
Transcript of Records (of the current course) issued by the home university: versions in English and Spanish are accepted. Otherwise, it must be sent along with a simple translation into Portuguese;
Copy of the Passport (bio-date page): It must be valid for the period of exchange at USP;
Letter of nomination from the home university;
Photo in “.jpg” format (50Kb at the largest): photo that shows the person's face directly facing the camera;
Health insurance: it is mandatory during the exchange period in Brazil. If the student is unable to take out the insurance at the time of application, they can forward the proof after the application period. In addition, international students are entitled to access Brazil’s public healthcare system in emergency situations.
